Devx was born as a total independent project inside the Digital Design Days festival. Our aim was to get in contact with some of the most talented developers all over the world and show their works to the Italian audience, so we asked them to make an experiment for us. The brief was pretty simple because we wanted the participants to feel totally free. In our daily work we always have to find a compromise between what we'd love to do and what client wants, but we think it's important to keep working on our independent projects and pushing the boundaries.
We wanted to illustrate the realization process from idea to the actual experiment, so as a metaphor we built a 3D cocoon that explodes. Technically we needed to use WebGL and we had to find a perfect balance between the optimizing 3D Model, code performance and slick transition so that it looks great in the beginning as a cocoon and later when it explodes and transforms into particles background.
The result was amazing! All the developers joining the project were excited and they had the opportunity to come to the Digital Design Festival in Milan. We met a lot of amazing people and found out that they all love collaborating and sharing. Also the audience responded great: in the first month we had something like 20K visits (with no sponsored campaign). We won a FWA of the day and we competed for FWA of the months with some of our digital heroes!
A special thanks to all the developers who made this project possible
