Satwa 3000, an art collector in Dubai, attended MeetD3, the annual Dubai District Design Celebration. The concept was to create an installation that allow users to easily create, view and share a funny GIF.
MONOGRID worked on the hardware part of 3 installations. For Bullet time we created a 180° rig with 6 webcams attached on it, a physical button and we coded custom software to snap from 6 webcams simultaneously and send the result to the server. For Green Screen and Kaleidoscope room, we invented a physical button and custom software to record short videos and send it to the server automatically.
The technologies that we used are Processing and Arduino.
The installation consists of 4 different rooms, Bullet time, green screen, Kaleidoscope and Kinect, where users can enter, interact with the installations and exit by receiving an animated GIF that can be shared on social media. In addition, the newly created GIF is projected onto the LED wall outside the building. In collaboration with Buzz Brothers Switzerland, MONOGRID has been responsible for finding hardware solutions.
Fun, user friendly and stable, the installations have been running for 3 days non stop, 12 hours each day without problem. Users have quickly learned how the installation works, and they have been impressed by the results and GIFS displayed in the LED wall. They also enjoyed sharing GIF on social networks.
