After the success of the “Equilibrium” VR installation, during the first edition of Digital Design Days we’ve been called to present another VR game for the second edition. The brief was really open so we had the chance to brainstorm and come up with something we found exciting.
We decided to make something that wasn’t just a game but also a shared creation that linked together visitors of the festival coming from all over the world. We wanted to use both Oculus Rift and HTC Vive in a multiplayer experience where every participant would come together to create a collective artwork.
Picking inspiration from the retro futurism trend we decided to create “Super Babel 3000”, a baseball game in which two players swing a digital bat to throw colored neon voxels in the center of the arena creating a sculpture. Every player had 10 shots and he could choose the color he wanted to add to the sculpture.
Hundreds of people played the game during the three days of the festival, building retro futurist babel towers together. Every six hours we took a 360° GIF picture of the sculpture, sharing the creation of the community on social media.
